Top it Off

I've been digging ball caps lately, but in a fashion-y way as I'm not much of a sports-woman. I think they look totally cool with a blazer and skirt and although I was met with rolled eyes when trying to explain this look to my girlfriends, today Holt's confirmed that I was right on trend on their blog, Holt's Muse.

{holt's muse}

I'd be faking it with a logo'd sports team cap but I could totally rock the orange Chanel one above and am keeping my eye out for a plain navy or black felt version. I'm happy to say The Man Repeller digs ball caps and Who, What, Wear does too. Three times a trend?

{who, what, wear}

So tell me, would you consider topping it off with a fitted ball cap?

The Man Repeller in Vancouver

{MR at Secret Location}

In a moment of temporary coolness, our yoga pant obsessed, Hunter wearing, rainy city will play host to one of my very favourite bloggers, The Man Repeller, this evening. I know this not because I am one of the cool kids but because I follow the MR, Leandra Medine, on Instagram and Twitter. I noticed that the location she tagged in one of her photos was Secret Location, the boutique in Gastown, and immediately felt a sense of city pride.

My only stop into Secret Location this summer taught me a few things: first, my seersucker Sperry Topsiders really stick out amongst Camilla Skovgaard and shop girls wearing Heidi-braids, wire bunny-ear headbands and suspenders, and second, it's really not the type of shop Eloise should be in. Toppling over a display of vintage Chanel bags or impaling herself on a sky-high stiletto was an accident waiting to happen.

None the less, I can't help but be feel excited that one of fashion's top bloggers made the trek all the way to Vancouver for "an evening of mingling and talking fashion." If I didn't already have plans to be in my pajamas by 7:30 tonight I'd love to see The MR in person. But what on earth would I wear?

Late Night

It's not that I'm an insomniac, or that I'm not tired (I am, Eloise was up at four this morning ... uh, yesterday morning), I just really, really enjoy the time I get to myself when everyone has gone to bed. The house is quiet, the hum of the dishwasher is oddly soothing and it's just nice to have an opportunity to catch up on emails, blogs, even a little self indulgent facebook-ing.

While reading a favourite fashion blog I came across this video of the Man Repeller doing "Call Me Maybe". Major fashion people (a designer! a model! a blogger!) dancing around and having fun, how can you not love it?

Blog Crush: The Man Repeller

The Man Repeller is by far the most entertaining fashion blog I have ever read. Beyond being stylish, it's funny, and by funny I mean hilarious, laugh out loud hilarious in every single post. Blogger Leandra Medine has a sharp sense of humour to go with an even cooler sense of style.

But what on earth does "Man Repeller" mean? Think of all the fashion trends we've adopted over the years: boyfriend jeans, high-waisted pants, jumpsuits, shoe-boots, and all the times your significant other has rolled their eyes, questioning your choice in clothing. That's what it means to be a Man Repeller. In Leandra's definition, "Good fashion is about pleasing women, not men, so as it happens, the trends that we love, men hate. And that is fantastic.” Here here.

The Man Repeller was named one of the "Five Fashion Bloggers that Matter" by Women's Wear Daily and it's obvious why. This blog is entertaining, awesomely styled and in encouraging women to embrace their personal style and dress for themselves, I'd say it's pretty damn empowering too. Makes me want to pull on my jumpsuit (the one Chris calls my mechanic coverall), slap on a big metal belt (a deadly weapon), and lace up my suede gladiator stilettos (these are just "plain ugly") to finish writing this post. Well, almost ... it's 10:43 on a Saturday and I am clearly wearing my pyjamas. They are hot pink flannel though, so I promise I'm doing a pretty good job of man repelling already.
