Everything Old is New Again

When I hear names like Pearl, Edith and Mabel the first thing that comes to mind is not little girls on the playground, but their dear old grannies sitting on the benches nearby. But on second thought, names like Isabel, Ruby and Sophia have become commonplace in the last few years so could the Ediths and Mabels be much further behind?

I have come across a number of names in books that sound as old-fashioned as they do modern. And since these names have been around for as long as centuries, there is no question as to how they are pronounced or spelled. Here are a few of my picks:
  • Hazel
  • Beatrice
  • Clementine
  • Violet
  • May
  • Audrey
  • Nora
  • Mathilda
  • Willa
  • Jane
Pretty, elegant and feminine, these names would be sweet for a baby girl yet classic enough to carry her into adulthood, proving that everything old really can be new again.
